Thankful: More than a Hobby

I have been a full time practicing dentist for 33 years, specializing in Prosthodontics. During the Covid pandemic lockdown from March to June of 2020, I rekindled an old passion.

During my childhood and through college, I was happiest if I was creating something: something with pottery, ceramics, knitting, sewing, embroidery, jewelry making, photography, music—but I also loved science. I pursued my Master of Science and finished Dental School, specializing in Prosthodontics, a branch of Dentistry dealing with prevention, wellness and restoring the oral cavity to its natural beauty and function.

Making Jewelry Is An Outlet For My Creativity

Science satisfies one aspect of my life and creating fulfills the other. Throughout my dental career, I have been involved in jewelry making as a conduit to the happiness of creating things. It started out just as a creative outlet and then I started getting more and more involved with the process of designing beautiful pieces. And when the pandemic hit, I found the time to create more and more ... and Daisy and Zarafa was born.

I really enjoy working as a dentist, but making and designing jewelry has become a driving force in my life—letting me exercise my creativity and see the happiness it brings to others. Designing and creating the pieces has brought a balance in my life.

My inspirations for the pieces are from nature and the earth: beautiful plants, flowers, trees, water, architecture, natural stones. Designing these pieces has made me slow down and linger over nature and all the beautiful things around us.

Creating these beautiful pieces brings me personal joy and happiness, allows me to de-stress, is therapeutic and allows me to be a better healthcare provider. To invest in yourself and pursue what you enjoy is the best way to go through life.
